My terribly curly hair needs a curling iron that gets quite hot to straighten it. Been to all the usual places without luck. Can anyone recommend a good place to find one that gets HOT?

I agree, don't settle for anything except GHD's ...I thought it was rubbish untill I got some, but its not. I have the most unruly hair you can imagine and with my GHD's I can go straight or curled (rather than frizzy!). Lots of on-line sites will deliver here, just don't settle for anything but GHD's, I bought holiday tongs (not GHD) and they are rubbish!
